Responsibility
On the Path to the Sustainable Travel Finland Label
At Peurunka, we have always operated responsibly and with respect for our environment. Now, our goal is to provide experiences aligned with the principles of sustainable tourism. We are on a journey to achieve the Sustainable Travel Finland label, a significant milestone we aim to reach by 2025.
Our sustainability efforts focus on ecological, sociocultural, and economic sustainability. Our actions include utilizing renewable energy, improving recycling processes, and supporting the local community. We also take the surrounding nature into account in our operational planning.
Our customers can contribute to our sustainability efforts through their choices, and together, we are building a more sustainable future!
When you visit us, you’re also visiting responsibly. Welcome!
Ecological Responsibility
Our thermal energy is primarily produced using bioenergy (wood pellets).
The pellet heating plant operated by Adven is in use, ensuring that the water in our spa is heated in a more climate-friendly manner. With the introduction of the pellet heating plant, carbon dioxide emissions from heating the spa, ice arena, and holiday apartments have decreased by over 90%.
The main building of the spa hotel (7,500 square meters), 3,000–4,500 cubic meters of pool and washing water, the ice arena, and holiday apartments are all heated using domestic wood pellets. The fuel, or pellets, is currently sourced from the nearby wood-processing industry. Additionally, the technology for the new heating center comes from Kyyjärvi, located just over 100 kilometers away.
Other Measures:
- Recycling: Peurunka actively recycles glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, and other waste such as WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment).
- Food waste: Efforts are made to reduce food waste in restaurant operations and we encourage our customers to pay attention to the amount of food waste.
Sociocultural Responsibility
Peurunka collaborates with the local community by utilizing local producers’ products whenever possible, offering employment opportunities to locals, and participating in regional events. Peurunka also contributes to preserving local cultural heritage; the Korsu Museum is located within the Peurunka area. In 2025, the Saraakallio Experience Center will be introduced to further enrich the region’s cultural offerings.
We ensure that our operations are inclusive and accessible, providing services for all guests, such as barrier-free facilities and routes, as well as individually tailored experiences. Non-binary guests are also considered, for example, with appropriate changing facilities in the spa. Equality and non-discrimination also guide our recruitment processes and workplace practices.
AccessibilityEconomic Responsibility
Peurunka’s economic responsibility is rooted in sustainable business principles that support the well-being of both the company and the local community. We prioritize local producers and service providers in our procurement processes, strengthening the regional economy and creating jobs. Additionally, we offer both permanent and seasonal employment opportunities for local residents, particularly for young people.
Responsible investments, such as improving energy efficiency, help reduce environmental impacts and manage costs. Our diverse range of services and focus on sustainable tourism ensure economic stability for the future. By operating in this way, we are laying a foundation for long-term, responsible growth.
