SUSTAINABLE PEURUNKA

On our way towards the Sustainable Travel Finland -label

At Peurunka, we have always acted responsibly and with respect for our environment. Now our aim is to offer experiences in line with the principles of sustainable tourism. We are on our way to achieving the Sustainable Travel Finland -label, which is an important goal for us to achieve by 2025. Our sustainability work focuses on ecological, socio-cultural and economic sustainability. Our measures include, for example, using renewable energy, increasing recycling and supporting the local community. We also consider the nature around us when designing our operations. Our customers can contribute to sustainability through their choices, and together we will build a more sustainable future!

You stay with us responsibly, welcome!

Ecological Responsibility

Our thermal energy is primarily produced using bioenergy (wood pellets).

The pellet heating plant operated by Adven is in use, allowing for climate-friendly heated water in our spa. With the pellet heating plant, CO₂ emissions from heating the spa, ice rink, and holiday apartments have decreased by over 90%.Peurunka

The main building of the spa hotel, covering 7,500 square meters, 3,000–4,500 cubic meters of pool and wash water, the ice rink, and holiday apartments are heated with domestic wood pellets. Currently, the pellets are sourced from nearby wood processing industries. The technology for the new heating center also comes from the nearby area, just over 100 kilometers away in Kyyjärvi.

Other initiatives:

  • Active recycling of glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, and other waste, including electronic waste.

  • Efforts to reduce food waste through careful meal planning and encouraging guests to be mindful of their choices.

Socio-Cultural Responsibility

Peurunka collaborates with the local community by using local producers’ products whenever possible, providing employment opportunities to locals, and participating in regional events. We are involved in preserving local cultural heritage; the Korsu Museum is located in the Peurunka area.

In 2025, the Saraakallio Experience Center will be introduced in Peurunka.

We ensure our operations are inclusive and accessible, offering services to all guests, such as accessible facilities and routes, as well as individually tailored experiences. Non-binary guests are considered, for example, in the spa’s changing rooms. Equality and non-discrimination also guide our staff recruitment and operations.

The certification indicates that our operations consider various aspects of the environment, society, and economy. During the application process, we assessed our current operations and identified areas for improvement to enhance our sustainability. Sustainability is important to us—we want Peurunka to be a great place for guests, staff, and the environment, now and in the future.

Economic Responsibility

Peurunka’s economic responsibility is based on the principles of sustainable business, supporting the well-being of both the company and the local community. We prioritize local producers and service providers in our procurement, strengthening the regional economy and creating local jobs. In addition, we offer both permanent and seasonal employment opportunities to local residents, especially young people.

Responsible investments—such as improving energy efficiency—help reduce environmental impact and manage costs. A diverse range of services and a strong focus on sustainable tourism ensure economic stability for the future. Through these actions, we lay the foundation for long-term and responsible growth.
